Action research, applied systematically to the issue of poor academic performance, provides a high likelihood of improving student outcomes. Craig A. Mertler is currently an associate professor in the EdD program in leadership and innovation at Arizona State University. He began his career as a high school biology teacher. He has been an educator for 35 years including 25 years in higher education and 12 years as an administrator.
