The Quantum-Ratchet Solar cell, designed to give an ultra-high conversion efficiency is being developed by Chris Phillips and his team at Imperial College London. The team are designing in triple set of optical transitions that each absorbs a targeted part of the solar spectrum in a way that significantly exceeds the so-called Shockley-Quiesser theoretical efficiency limit for a conventional cell.
