All have said they have found it really enjoyable, but what’s involved?

1. Our videojournalist (VJ) will attend your office/location and briefly outline the process again to put you at ease.
2. The VJ will identify part of the location with good lighting. We may ask you to close office doors for better sound quality and less interruptions. If you feel you can help identify the best part of the room also for this, we appreciate this.
3. The VJ will then set up the video, sound and lighting equipment and undertake the interview. The process takes approx 30-40 minutes and the VJ will re-ask the interview questions (sent in advance) this helps our editors in post-production.
4. A few photo headshots will be taken that represent your video on the Faculti website as the video post thumbnail image.
5. The VJ will thank you for your time and the interview then enters our post-production cycle. We will thereafter support this process from our office.” font_container=”tag:h4|text_align:left” google_fonts=”font_family:Roboto%3A100%2C100italic%2C300%2C300italic%2Cregular%2Citalic%2C500%2C500italic%2C700%2C700italic%2C900%2C900italic|font_style:400%20regular%3A400%3Anormal”][vc_empty_space][vc_custom_heading text=”4 steps to a great interview” google_fonts=”font_family:Roboto%3A100%2C100italic%2C300%2C300italic%2Cregular%2Citalic%2C500%2C500italic%2C700%2C700italic%2C900%2C900italic|font_style:400%20regular%3A400%3Anormal”][vc_custom_heading text=”A key part to the video and the communication of your video is that we do not want to lose the academic weight of the piece. So please do not feel you need to dumb the work down. A good place to start is to ask yourself the question: Are my responses accessible?

Based on the 2000+ interviews we have covered so far and both researcher and audience feedback, we have some tips…” font_container=”tag:h4|text_align:left” google_fonts=”font_family:Roboto%3A100%2C100italic%2C300%2C300italic%2Cregular%2Citalic%2C500%2C500italic%2C700%2C700italic%2C900%2C900italic|font_style:400%20regular%3A400%3Anormal”][vc_custom_heading text=”1.Timing and Pace
Try to keep responses to each question between 1-2 minutes.

2. Keep it simple but not too simple
Try and omit gratuitous intensifiers, qualifiers and superfluous statements without losing the academic weight of the piece.

3. Audience
The Faculti audience is predominantly the academic community, undergraduates through to leading academics, however these can also be working professionals in the field: eg. Doctors.

Our metrics show that there is a clear correlation between videos watched and those working in that field. So we always suggest, “What does your specific-subject audience need to hear?” Once the strategy is centred on the needs of the audience, that provides the framework for what needs to be said. If it doesn’t address that audience need, it may be extraneous.

4. Final Tips
Try to stay in the same position for your responses. Moving in and out of the depth of field can cause issues with the focus.

Do quote key parts of data if required, but instead of showing an image or reading data, rely on our team in post production to integrate these as infographics or graphics later to lay over your descriptions.” font_container=”tag:h4|text_align:left” google_fonts=”font_family:Roboto%3A100%2C100italic%2C300%2C300italic%2Cregular%2Citalic%2C500%2C500italic%2C700%2C700italic%2C900%2C900italic|font_style:400%20regular%3A400%3Anormal”][vc_empty_space][vc_custom_heading text=”Interview Feedback” google_fonts=”font_family:Roboto%3A100%2C100italic%2C300%2C300italic%2Cregular%2Citalic%2C500%2C500italic%2C700%2C700italic%2C900%2C900italic|font_style:400%20regular%3A400%3Anormal”][vc_custom_heading text=”Faculti’s aim is to communicate research in a way that is accessible to the wider public. The videos are professionally made and the participants present their ideas clearly in an unadorned, simple way, largely relying on direct, to camera communication, without any other audiovisual aids. A simple idea, well executed.
British Universities Film and Video Council

Working with Faculti was a pleasure. The videographer was talented and well-informed, and the interview was painless – even pleasant. The Faculti staff quickly prepared and presented the video clip on the Faculti website, and did an excellent job with it. I have received nothing but compliments about the video, and look forward to working with Faculti again.
Jeffry Frieden, Harvard University

Faculti did a great job; production, questions and edits – Happy to work with Faculti again if the opportunity arises.
Stephen Farthing RA, University of the Arts London

I find the format very effective and will use it in teaching. The interviewer was excellent to work with.
Dan Plesch, Director of the Center for International Studies and Diplomacy, School of Oriental and African Studies

Faculti research videos are an invaluable resource for students and general members of the public exploring disciplines and issues. They are also important for researchers to share their ideas and thinking with broader audiences, and for universities to showcase their academic staff and research strengths.
