Based on research, the 2016 Brexit referendum did not have a significant impact on UK-EU trade in goods relative to comparator trade flows. Furthermore, the Trade and Cooperation Agreement (TCA) signed in December 2020 resulted in a reduction in UK trade with the EU, with UK imports from the EU being negatively impacted throughout 2021.
