This interview examines the long-term impact of past unemployment experiences on household consumption in South Korea, revealing that the 1997 financial crisis left lasting “scarred consumption” effects, particularly among vulnerable income and asset-holding groups, driven primarily by increased savings rather than reduced future income expectations.
