Reframing Equity in higher education

Penny Jane Burke discusses key dimensions of PPOEMs and an emphasis on time and temporality in
relation to equity.

This interview draws from my body of work including The Right to Higher Education
beyond widening participation (Burke, 2012) and Equity in Higher Education: Time for Social
Justice Praxis (forthcoming, Burke and Lumb, 2023).

This work has formed the development of the Centre of Excellence for Equity in Higher
Education, which is shaped by a pioneering social justice praxis framework through
Pedagogical Methodologies (Burke, Crozier and Misiaszek, 2017; Burke and Lumb, 2018) or
PPOEMs (Praxis-based, Pedagogical, Ethically-oriented, Methodologies, Burke, 2020).
