Enumerators collect data for education research, however varied techniques might lead to inaccuracies. This study explores enumerator effects on Kenyan academic exams and surveys. Using a remote phone-based mathematics assessment and parent survey, enumerators were randomized to students to test enumerator effects. Enumerator effects affected both the academic exam and survey, which could bias impact evaluations. Randomizing student enumerators and educating them reduces bias, according to the study.
